Fun, Effective, and Personal Blogger Outreach

I am a regular fan of the Common Craft Show, if you haven’t checked it out – it’s a must (go go now). I was skimming over it this morning and found a very interesting video they recently produced with Darren Barefoot and Julie Szabo for their book “Getting to First Base – A Social Media Marketing Playbook. I haven’t yet read it yet so I don’t know if it’s any good. But their setup here is quite something.

A very interesting post on their site socialmediaready.com detailing the steps they’ve taken with bloggers to get the message out for their book.This is not only well thought out, fun, but it’s personalized. Here’s an example (written to Robert Scoble):

I know as a marketing professional it turns into this rat race of how many eyes and ears can you perk in x time. But maybe rather then spamming 300 bloggers in 5 min, where they turn a cold cheek or worse yet burn you back, it’s more important to reach out individually and make that one-on-one connection. If this truly is “new media” and “new marketing” why are we confined to old work habits?Good Luck Darren and Julie – Lookin’ good so far.
